How many of you instinctively respond with an emphatic NO to this question? It could be that you can’t concentrate while listening to music. But did you know that science and research confirm that some children process information more effectively when listening to music? That’s because the rhythm in the music helps create rhythm in the brain, especially for children who have busy, disorganized brains. Casey and I both listen to music while writing and doing work. Experiment with this and we’ll cover more rhythm solutions in future posts. Share this with other homeschooling parents who could use a helping hand.

This is great! I have often thought about playing music during our school day. Yet somehow, I rarely get around to it. What type of music would you recommend? I know that I prefer classical, instrumental.
Try the instrumental or classical in the background. But most importantly, ask your kids what kind of music helps THEM concentrate better. Different children respond to different things. One may like quiet; another may prefer more intense music on his headphones. Definitely experiment!
